Round up of 2018 Makes

Each year I make a list of everything I want to make separated by month. It obviously changes as I find new patterns, fabrics or inspiration but I try to stick to at least one thing per month as a goal. This year I exceeded it and made about 20 things so I thought I’d round up all of my makes from 2018; the good, the best and the ugly.

So here’s a brief round up of everything I made in 2018 (that I can remember!)

JANUARY – 1 dress

I started the year with a big fail as I made this Martha dress in Lady McElroy fabric which just wasn’t me at all. I didn’t realise it had snakes on from the swatch and I’ve only worn it once!

FEBRUARY – 2 bras

In February I made two bras – the Fenway by Orange Lingerie and the Geordie Bralette by Emerald Erin. Loved both but my skills weren’t quite up to scratch re fit and finish and I’ve never worn either. I’d like to revisit bra making this year.

MARCH – 2 dresses

After making some fails, March was looking up. I made my rip off Self Portrait Flora dress in lace and lined with crepe and did my first lapped zip. Not perfect but oh so beautiful.

I also made this William Morris Betty dress with sleeves. I made this a little on the big side so I don’t wear it loads, the fit isn’t perfect so I should revisit it and take it in.

APRIL – 2 dresses

I had a holiday in April so looking back I have no idea how I found the time to make 2 dresses. I made a ruffle sleeve Flora in Liberty lawn and a broderie anglaise Flora with a gathered skirt.

MAY – 2 dresses, 1 wrap circle skirt

Obviously I took part in Me Made May so looking back at my photos for May, there are many! But I made two new dresses, a wide strapped linen Flora and a Kim dress in fabric gifted to me from Primrose Fabrics. I also made a wrap circle skirt in rayon.

JUNE – 2 dresses

June was a win because I made two of my favourite dresses for the year – my first Anna dress in polka dot crepe, and a completely self drafted dress in seersucker for the New Craft House Summer party.

JULY – 1 dress, 1 swimsuit

In July I made probably my favourite dress ever in very special Ex-Valentino silk crepe. It’s a Flora/Anna mash.

I also drafted a swimsuit from an old H&M one – not perfect but it gave me more confidence to try this again this year.

AUGUST – 1 dress

I almost made a birthday dress but I loved my Valentino silk one so much I just wore that. I did however make my first Kew dress in cobalt blue linen.

SEPTEMBER – 1 dress

I made my second Kew dress, the tea dress version in some crepe.

OCTOBER – 2 dresses

I made a Rifle Paper Co Anna dress after meeting Anna Rifle herself! I also made a Liberty crepe Holly/Kew hack with puffed sleeves.

NOVEMBER – 1 dress

I made a velvet Anna dress for my Christmas party with matching bag.

DECEMBER – 1 dress, 1 skirt

I struggle for time in December because I also make my Christmas cards but I managed to make a dress – my heart crepe Holly/Kew and a skirt in a scrap of silky pleated fabric.
