I have a confession to make, this dress wasn’t meant to have a gathered skirt. I bought the fabric at the end of last summer planning to make a flora with full circle skirt and I accidentally bought it by the half metre so only ended up with 1.5m.
However I thought actually it could look quite good if I left the lining fairly short and left the bottom of the dress sheer. I also went for thick tie up straps which I think add a bit of girlyness but also give a really nice structure to the dress.
It feels really lovely when on and I definitely love the straps. I’m not 100% on the skirt because it feels a bit like a toga to me, however it makes a change to wear something that doesn’t blow up in the wind, so maybe gathered skirts are the way forward, at least for seaside visits.
Love this! It’s Spring here in the Southern Hemisphere and I’m longing for something in white Broderie Anglais for the summer. The way you finished the lining at the knee makes it look very pretty and youthful, just the thing for a seaside outing.
