I recently started knitting and began with simple things like scarves but as my friend Olivia just bought a new flat I thought for her Birthday I would try to make her a cushion cover. I stuck to garter stitch as I really like how textured and neat it looks when using a thick wool. For the wool, I chose two colours of Rowan’s ‘Big Wool’: a purple and a grey.
For the back, I kept it simple with plain grey as I thought it would match pretty much any colour scheme.
The front was in two pieces and I stitched it together with grey wool. I made button holes in two rows by casting off three stitches in one then casting on the same amount of stitches at the same point in the next row.
I used self-cover buttons and covered them with Liberty fabric. I chose this particular fabric because it had a small design which means it can make an impact with such a small piece.
I then fastened the buttons and voila! Even Moss approved:
The wrapping was obviously important too:
I really enjoyed this project and would definitely consider making more of them in different designs. Watch this space for new projects!
